Emerging Technology Risks and Novice AI Mitigation Tactics - Paper
Source:
I keep hearing from executives that they expect that a new generation of "AI natives" will show them how to use AI. I think this is a mistake: 1) Our research shows younger people do not really get AI or how to integrate into work 2) Experienced managers are often good prompters
The study examines the role of junior professionals in teaching senior professionals how to effectively use emerging technologies, such as generative AI. Previous research has shown that junior professionals are often better positioned to learn new technologies and teach their seniors. However, the current study focuses on emerging technologies, which have unique characteristics that may make junior professionals less effective as teachers for their senior counterparts. The study found that the junior consultants recommended three types of "novice AI risk mitigation tactics" that were not aligned with the tactics recommended by experts: 1. Tactics that lacked a deep understanding of the emerging technology's capabilities. 2. Tactics that focused on changing human routines rather than system design. 3. Tactics that focused on interventions at the project level rather than the system deployer or ecosystem level. full paper: openread.academy/en/paper/re…
